The only sure way to deal with that is by reinstalling the operating system.

Can I recommend installing Ubuntu Linux as your operating system? that would keep the problem from happening next time.
what kind of trojan is it?

if you know the name jump onto security alerts on norton and find a removal tool or instruction.

if you need to update dowoad the updates via norton.com and install them manualy.

if this to fails i would download AVG 7.5 antivirus free edition and run a complete scan remove.

Well if norton didn't prevent it I would get rid of it and get avg or ewido the programs are free and they work better.
I'm not sure about Norton but I think AVG's better. You might also consider downloading Spybot-earch and Destroy (for spywares) and Ad-Aware programs. Sorry can't teach you how because they were installed in our computer by someone else but you can just search those programs in google.
Get rid of Norton and get a good antivirus program . Here you have some free ones:
