My virus checker sees a trojan threat every time it scans but never gets rid of it, what can I do?

I have AVG free version and the threat is apparently in temp internet files but I can't see it when I explore there. Why doesn't avg get rid of it and is it OK to leave it there, it's got me worried.

Run Spybot

Trojans are better removed by an anti-spyware program, rather than an anti-virus program.

Spybot = free and works well.

NOTE: Trojans almost always live in live memory, and can only be killed by the AV program if you scan from Safe Mode.

Boot into Safe Mode and run your scans.

Restart..hold down F8 until you see the boot menu, choose Safe Mode.
Usually if a threat can not be cleaned, it is because the files for it are being loaded during the Windows startup. This causes the files to be "in use", so they can not be deleted.

Boot the computer in Safe Mode. Turn it on and begin to repeatedly press the f8 key until you get the Safe Mode option. When in Safe Mode, the computer is restricted from loading any files except the minimum needed to display the Windows desktop. This keeps the virus from being loaded, so none of the files are "in use" and they can be deleted.

Run AVG in Safe Mode.

If that does not work, ran Spybot Seek %26 Destroy instead in Safe Mode. If the trojan is classes as a "spyware" rather than a "virus", then a "virus" scanner will not clean it. You can get Spybot free at http://download.com
uninstall avg and Google nod32 and downloads the trial version its the same as avgfree edition. i have used avg for a long time but now i' am a nod32 kinda guy it will actually get rid of all viruses and if it can't it will send info to esets web page so they can analyze it and remove it . i have had so much more success with nod32.
