What was the Odysseus plan to win the trojan war? Did it Work? The trojan war was a war between what

The Trojan War was fought between Greece and Troy. In the epic poem ''The Iliad'', it was fought for the sake of Helen of Troy, (who, confusingly enough, was actually Greek.)

Odysseus was on the Greeks' side. They had tried to take the city of Troy, but it hadn't worked. His plan was to:

1) Pretend that the Greeks had given up and sailed back home (they actually loaded their ships and hid for awhile.)

2) Leave a beautiful wooden horse behind (as a gift to the gods for having fought a war that displeased them.)

3) Leave someone behind with the horse that could convince the Trojans to take the horse into the city.

(The giant horse, by the way, contained a secret group of talented Greek soldiers inside.)

The plan worked, the horse was brought into the city, and the Trojans partied, got drunk, and fell asleep. The Greeks got out of the horse, opened the city gates for the other Greek soldiers to come through and slaughtered the unsuspecting Trojans.

The Greeks won the war.

The above answers are correct with one little detail. Greece was not an unified country at the time. It was a collection of individual city states that included Athens, Sparta and others. They were joined only by treaty and led by Agamemnon whose brother was Helen's husband from whom Paris took her. Odysseus did not want to fight and feigned madness but was discovered when he refused to kill his son. The war was not believed to be fought for ten straight years but in cycles depending on the harvests.

.. and to add up, the war broke because of helen of troy. thus, she was named ''the face that launched a thousand ships''
The story of the Trojan Horse is not mythological. It's a part of Greek history. Archaeologsts have found the remains of Troy, which was a city-state.
